Linda Mae Hathaway

Linda Mae Hathaway, 76, Grace Village Retirement Community in Winona Lake, and formerly a long time resident of rural Claypool, passed away at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018, at Grace Village Health Care.

She was born Jan. 9, 1942, in Goshen to Charles Walker Smoker and Mary Kathryn (Kline) Smoker. On June 1, 1960, she was married to Perry Ray Hathaway, who survives.

Mrs. Hathaway was a resident of Kosciusko County for the past 68 years where she was a 1960 graduate of Leesburg High School. After her marriage, she moved to the family farm in rural Claypool and resided there until 2017 when they moved to Winona Lake. She was actively involved in the Kosciusko County Fair and 4-H leadership for many years. She was a member of the Extension Homemakers for over 50 years. She enjoyed baking, gardening, needle work, but most of all she especially enjoyed her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 57 years, Perry Ray Hathaway, Winona Lake; two sons: Donald (wife Harriet) Hathaway, North Manchester; Douglas Hathaway, Claypool; and three daughters: Darlene (husband John) Lash, Mentone; Diane (husband Lee) Kenyon, Wimberley, Texas; and Dorothy (husband Stephen) Miller, Osceola. Also surviving are sixteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; two brothers: Robert (wife Helen) Smoker, Leesburg; Roger (wife Jane) Smoke, Warsaw; and her sister: Debra (husband Salah) Smoker-Ali, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Jean Kistler, who passed away in 2013.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.

Her funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home and officiated by Chaplain Bryan Benjamin. Burial will follow with a graveside service at Graceland Cemetery in Claypool.

Ruth L. Ridgway

Ruth L. Ridgway, 101, of Grace Village Assisted Living, passed away Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018, in Kosciusko Community Hospital.

She was born the daughter of William and Bernice Goshert Rush on July 27, 1916, at Olkmulgee, Okla. On Nov. 25, 1937, she married Thurman Ridgway; he preceded her in death Sept. 17, 1992. She enjoyed volunteering and graduated from Mentone High School.

Surviving Mrs. Ridgway is her son, Stephen and Alisa Ridgway of Tucson, Ariz.; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sister, Virginia Hight of Etna Green; brothers: Don Rush of Fort Wayne and Carl Rush of Beaumont, Texas. Preceding in death were her parents, sisters: Mary Derry and Lena Hoffer; brothers: Paul Rush and Earl Rush.

Burial will follow at a later date in Mentone Cemetery.

A local memorial service is not planned at this time. The family would be grateful for any donations in memory of Ruth Ridgway to Grace Village Retirement Community.

Ronald Randels

Ronald Randels, 46, Winona Lake, passed away at 5:45 p.m., Monday, Feb. 19, 2018, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne.

He was born May 24, 1971, in Woodbridge/Bentwaters A.F.B., England to Robert N. and Gloria B. (Guiney) Randels.

A 40-year area resident, he was employed by Zimmer/Biomet in Clinical Affairs. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Warsaw.

He attended Ball State University and was a graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University.

Mr. Randels is survived by his mother, Gloria Randels; sisters: Cheri (James Priest) Randels-Priest; and Cabrina Randels; brother, Robert (Lasca) Randels, all of Warsaw; his fiancé, Teresa Seaberg, Winona Lake, nieces: Bebhinn, Brianna and Shannon; nephews: Christopher, and Patrick. In addition, he will also be lovingly remembered by other family members and friends here and in Ireland.

He was preceded by his father in 2002, and sister Caren in 1981.

Visitation is scheduled from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. A Christian Burial Service will immediately follow, with Father Matthias Alonyenu officiating. Interment will be private.

Jacqueline Jean Hollar

Jacqueline Jean Hollar, 75, Warsaw, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018. She was a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother, gracious hostess and enjoyed travel, hymns and God’s beautiful sunsets on Winona Lake.

She was born Feb. 6, 1943, in LaPorte, to Ralph Waldo Johnson and Norma Eleanor Alice (Rochlitz) Johnson. On Aug. 26, 1962, she was married to Dr. Charles Allan Hollar, who survives in Warsaw.

Mrs. Hollar moved to Kosciusko County in 1966. She attended the Church of the Good Shepherd in Winona Lake. For 50 years she worked with her husband, Dr. Charles Hollar and their son Dr. Steven Hollar, in their dental office, and enjoyed being a talented interior designer. She cherished being her husband’s Christian help mate, and a mother to her children and grandmother to her five grandchildren.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 55 years, Dr. Charles Allan Hollar, Warsaw; son: Dr. Steven C. (Jennifer) Hollar, Warsaw; and her daughter: Dana (Mark) Lawrence, Columbus, Ohio. Also surviving are her five grandchildren: Bennett and Jonathan Hollar, Meredith (Trent) Smith, and Gabrielle and Grant Lawrence; sister: Cheryl Rotermund, Huntley, Ill.; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Vernon Johnson.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Friday, March 2, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.

Her funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, at Church of the Good Shepherd, 708 College Avenue, Winona Lake and officiated by Pastor John Quigley and Pastor Bruce Barlow. Burial will follow with a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw.

David Alexander Hutton

David Alexander Hutton, 91, Winona Lake, passed away at 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at Grace Village Health Care in Winona Lake.

He was born Oct. 5, 1926, to Robert Andrew Hutton and Alice (Wilson) Hutton. On July 1, 1950, he was married to Shirley Jean (Weber) Hutton. They shared 54 years of marriage before she passed away on Oct. 15, 2004.

Mr. Hutton was a resident of Kosciusko County for the past five years where he attended Pleasant View Bible Church of Warsaw. He was a 1944 graduate of Bogart High School in Buffalo, N.Y. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1953. He received the Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars. He worked as a dry cleaner and in industrial sales for 37 years in Buffalo, New York and Rochester, N.Y. He enjoyed helping at Kalamazoo Gospel Mission in Kalamazoo, Mich. and will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He will be lovingly remembered by his son: David (wife Donna) Hutton, Wilmington, Dela.; daughter: Diane (husband James) Myers, Winona Lake; four grandchildren: Christina (husband James) Gilliland, Mount Prospect, Ill.; Daniel Hutton, Wilmington, Dela.; Jason (wife Lisa) Myers, Greensboro, N.C.; Janelle Myers, Winona Lake; and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one sister.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 9, at Schoolcraft Township Cemetery in Schoolcraft, Mich. officiated by Pastor Steve Nichols with full military rites. Arrangements were entrusted with Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw.

Janice Mardelle Taylor, 83, formerly of Winona Lake, passed away at 2 a.m., Thursday, March 15, 2018, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Wakarusa.

She was born Oct. 22, 1934, in West Unity, Ohio to Earnest Seymour Bowers and Thelma Lenore (Stantz) Bowers. On Aug. 22, 1953, she was married in Montpelier, Ohio to Richard Lee Taylor. They shared 59 years of marriage together before he passed away on Sept. 22, 2012.

She had been a longtime resident of Kosciusko County, living in Winona Lake before moving to Wakarusa, in 2015. She was a homemaker and member of Warsaw Wesleyan Church. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.

She will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters: Cinda Jan (husband Michael) Chase, Burlington, Ky.; Minda Sue (husband Tom) Davenport, Florida; and her son: David R. (wife Jodi) Taylor, Wakarusa. She also leaves behind her son-in-law: Clinton Olson, North Webster; 12 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter: Linda Joy Olson in January 2015, one granddaughter: Leslie Taylor, and three brothers: Lowell, Eugene, and Norman Bowers.

A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m., Monday, March 19, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, and officiated by Pastor Jarod Osborne. Burial will take place at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw.

Beverly Anne Hopper

Beverly Anne Hopper, 85, Winona Lake, passed away at 2:14 a.m. on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at Grace Village Health Care.

God granted her greatest desire, to be in heaven with her Lord and Savior. She was looking forward to being reunited with those who have gone before her, who shared the same faith in Jesus Christ. Beverly resided at Grace Village Retirement Community in Winona Lake and was 85 years old.

She was born Oct. 27, 1932, in Angola, to Carl Leo Barnhart and Hazel (Bryan) Barnhart.  She was married in September 1951, to James Corliss Hopper, who preceded her in death.

She was a resident of Kosciusko County for the past 55 years where she was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Oswego. She worked for Home Hospital and Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette, before moving to Warsaw. She then worked for many years as a Supervisor at Free Methodist Publishing House. When they closed their doors she took up studies in nursing at Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne. At the age of 55 she earned her LPN degree and worked for Grace Village Retirement Community until she retired.

She will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters: Debra Ann (Robert) Chisholm, Dallas, Texas; Diana Lynn (Ed) Warren, Claypool; and her son: Steven Michael (Jody) Hopper, Warsaw. She also leaves behind fifteen grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Joanna (Larry) Fischer, Katy, Texas; Julie (Kevin) Mitchell, Franklin; and her brother: William (Judy) Barnhart, Archibald, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Carleen Young, Nancy Graham; three sons: Lance Bryan Hopper, Jimmy Lee Hopper, Mark Allen Hopper; and her grandson, Bryan Lance Taylor.

Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m., Monday, April 9, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.

Her funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 9, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home and officiated by Pastor Dr. Robert Chisholm. Burial will follow with a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw.

Max William Moore, 75, Winona Lake, passed away at 1:10 p.m. on Monday, April 9, 2018, at his home. He was born on June 4, 1942, in Fort Wayne to John W. and Josephine G. (Hoover) Moore.

He graduated in 1960 from Southside High School in Fort Wayne and in 1965 from Purdue University in West Lafayette. He was married on Sept. 29, 1984, in South Bend to Joyce Ann (Lamirand) Dean, who survives. He retired in 2002 from GE / OEC Medical Systems in Warsaw as a Manufacturing Engineer. In 1987 he moved to Leesburg from Muncie and then to Port Charlotte, Fla. in 2013 before returning to Winona Lake in September 2017.

He formerly attended the United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife: Joyce Moore, Winona Lake; two sons: John William (Paula) Moore, Winona Lake; Michael Mathew (Mary Mendoza) Moore, Port Charlotte, Fla.; three stepsons: Timothy Alan (Judy) Bragg, South Bend; Daniel Richard (Debra) Bragg, Edwardsburg, Mich.; Michael Jay Dean, Decatur, Mich.; 12 grandchildren; several great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jack McGee Moore.

Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N. SR 15, Warsaw. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, April 12, at Owen Family Funeral Home, SR 13 and C.R. 500N, North Webster. Memorial services will follow at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the funeral home with Pastor Bob Brown of the God’s Highway to Heaven Church in Warsaw. Private family burial will take place in the Mock Addition of the North Webster Cemetery at a later date.

Clarence Wayne DeTurk

Clarence Wayne DeTurk, 98, Grace Village Retirement Community, Winona Lake, passed away at 8:40 a.m. on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at Miller’s Merry Manor of Warsaw.

He was born Aug. 24, 1919, in Fort Wayne, to Walter DeTurk and Terzah (Alshouse) DeTurk. On Aug. 19, 1943, he was married to Joan Lucille (Couts) DeTurk, the mother of his children. She passed away March 14, 1967. Mr. DeTurk then married Bernice Spigutz in 1968, she also passed away in September 1992. On June 6, 2016, he married Dixie (Walrath) DeTurk, who survives.

Clarence DeTurk enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII and served from 1941 until his honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant Oct. 3, 1945. He belonged to Company L 152nd Infantry Unit, and they were called to active service Jan. 17, 1941, and were sent to Camp Shelby, Miss. In 1942 they were stationed in Hawaii. Company L Local National Guard Unit was called into federal service Jan. 17, 1943 and were again sent to Camp Shelby in Mississippi. They guarded Hawaii in 1942, then continued on to Buna, New Guinea and the Philippines. On January 1943 their unit made a surprise attack on Leyte, and moved up to Bataan to mount an attack on Zigzag Pass to Manilla. DeTurk shared these memories and stated, “We had many casualties and this was later known as the Avenger of Bataan.” He was subsequently decorated with two purple hearts, and three bronze stars.

He worked as the Post Master for the Winona Lake Post Office. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Warsaw, a life member of the American Legion Post #49 of Warsaw, and a 63 year member as well as a charter member of the Lake City Lions Club. DeTurk received the Lions Club Melvin Jones Award, and the Lions Club International Award. He always kept active and received the Russ Jacobson award for Shuffleboard, member of the Texas Shuffleboard Association, Rio Grande Valley Shuffleboard Hall of Fame, and Western Rio Grande Valley Shuffleboard Hall of Fame. He traveled throughout the U.S. and internationally to play shuffleboard in Brazil, Australia, Japan and Canada. He was an excellent golfer and mentored a lot of golfers throughout his life.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Dixie DeTurk, Winona Lake; three daughters: Marla (Lowell) Luce, Mission, Texas; Nelta (Jeff) Rose, Mentone; Judy (Mike) Pruski, Poth, Texas; and two sons: Jerry (Darlene) DeTurk, Warsaw; Ken (Betsy) DeTurk, Yucaipa, Calif. Also surviving are his step-son, Jim Spigutz, Warsaw; two step-daughters: Dawn (Jeff) McIlroy and Richelle (John) Szegda, both of Mesick, Mich.; 17 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren and five great-great grandsons; eight step-grandchildren; six step-great grandchildren; and his brother, Lewis (Lily) DeTurk, Peru. He was preceded in death by his parents, first and second wives, a sister and four brothers.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m., Monday, April 30, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.

His funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 1, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home and officiated by Pastor Ernie Troxell and Pastor Russell Simpson. Burial will follow with a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw with full military rites conducted by the American Legion Post 49, V.F.W. #1126, and active duty members of the Army Honor Guard.

Ernest A. Engelberth

Ernest “Ernie” A. Engelberth, 90, Grace Village Retirement Community, Winona Lake, passed away at midnight, Thursday, May 3, 2018, at Grace Village Health Care.

He was born on July 15, 1927, in Hammond, to Henry Engelberth and Elizabeth (Kaiser) Engelberth. On Jan. 25, 1953, he was married to Norma Jean (Leedy) Engelberth, who survives. Together they had six children.

Mr. Engelberth was a 1945 graduate of North Webster High School in North Webster. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in March 1946 and served during WWII until his honorable discharge in August 1947. He was a member of Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church in Winona Lake, Indiana, and longtime member of the Gideons International. His life was well lived, and he was a man never afraid of a hard day’s work. He was a lifetime dairy farmer, farming the majority of his life in the Kosciusko County area.   He will be remembered for his work ethic, his character, and his dedication to his family. He will be dearly missed by all.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Norma Jean Engelberth, Winona Lake; three daughters: Susan (Mike) Heintz, Sidney, Ohio; Connie (husband Mike) Lehe, Wolcott; Karen Engelberth (significant other Sean Barrows), Parker, Colo.; and three sons: Lloyd (Nora) Engelberth, Greenwood, Wisc.; Doug (Ann) Engelberth, Fort Wayne; Tom (Ramona) Engelberth, Edgerton, Ohio. He also leaves behind fifteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; brother: Otto (Mary) Engelberth, Essex Junction, Vt.; and his sister: Dorothy (Dale) Hostetler, Yakima, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents, and six brothers: Al, Arthur, Ted, Paul, Henry, and Bill.

Visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m., Sunday, May 6, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw. There will also be time for visiting an hour prior to the service from 10-11 a.m., Monday, May 7, at the funeral home.

His funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 7, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home and officiated by Pastor Tom Miller. Burial will follow with a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw.

Doris S. Strange

Doris S. Strange, 87, Grace Village Retirement Community in Winona Lake, passed away at Grace Village Health Care at 12:39 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2018.

She was born on Sept. 29, 1930, in Philadelphia, Penn. to Emma (Aiken) Scott and Wesley E. Scott. On June 30, 1956, she was married to Harold Strange, who survives.

She received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and her Master’s degree from Temple University. She was a high school teacher for two years in Merion School District, outside of Philadelphia. When she moved to the Pittsburgh area with her husband Harold, she dedicated her life to being a Mom, and was a homemaker for the majority of her life.

She was always there for her family. During her life in Pennsylvania she was a long time member of Christ Church at Grove Farm in Sewickley, Penn., where she was very much involved in church activities. She sang in the church choir, and enjoyed the Garden Club and Bridge Club. After moving to Winona Lake, with her husband Harold, they became members of the Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church. As a resident of Grace Village Retirement Community, she enjoyed the company of the many friends she made there, she especially enjoyed the Art Therapy program at Grace Village. She will be forever loved and fondly remembered by her family and friends.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 61 years, Harold Strange, Winona Lake; son: Robert (Debra) Strange, North Myrtle Beach, S.C. ; daughter: Barbara (Mark) McCollom, Warsaw; and five grandchildren: Joseph, Julie, Jenna, Zeb, and Drew. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Edna Jean Patrick, and her brother-in-law, George Patrick.

Doris Strange’s life will be celebrated at a memorial service to be held at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, May 26, at The Grace Village Chapel at Grace Village Retirement Community, 337 Grace Village Drive, Winona Lake and officiated by Chaplain Bryan Benjamin, Pastor Kip Cone, and Pastor Bruce Barlow.

She was a virtuous, quiet woman of great faith. She stepped on shore and found it Heaven, took a hand and found God’s. She breathed her first breath of new air and found it celestial. And waking up in Glory and she found it Home.

She was born Jan. 24, 1923, in Clay Township, Kosciusko County, to Arlie F. Beigh and Laurena (Karns) Beigh. On Nov. 26, 1942, in Walkerton, she was married to Ernest F. Rhoades, who passed away on Aug. 15, 2000.

She was lifetime resident of Kosciusko County, residing the majority of her life in Pierceton. And she was a 1941 graduate of Claypool High School. She was very involved with the Warsaw and Winona Lake Gideon Auxiliary since the 1960’s, and was a volunteer coordinator for the Kosciusko County Historical Society for many years as well as being involved with child evangelism.

She was an excellent cook, enjoyed gardening, and was a member of the Atwood Christian Fellowship.She was a praying mother and grandmother and will be forever missed.

She will be lovingly remembered by her four sons:  Ron (Judy) Rhoades, Holland, Mich.; John (Aggie) Rhoades, Fort Meyers, Fla.; Frank (Christy) Rhoades, Pierceton; and Dean (Chris) Rhoades, Pierceton. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren: Todd (Tracie) Rhoades, Holland, Mich.; Courtney Rhoades, Texas; Jennifer Rhoades, Chicago, Ill.; Anna (Jason) Umstead, North Carolina; Morgan Rhoades, Fort Meyers, Fla.; Rebecca (John) Repp, Tennessee; Jason (Jodi) Rhoades, Pierceton; Nathan Rhoades, Sidney; and Janelle (Keirn) Rhoades, Pierceton; Aaron Rhoades, Indiana; Carrie (Nathan) Sautter, North Manchester; Stephanie (Brandon) Cloud, Pierceton; Ethan (Rachael) Rhoades, Pierceton; and fifteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest R. Rhoades in 2000, two sisters, four brothers, and her great-grandson, Brevin Sautter.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturday, May 26, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw. Her funeral service will follow immediately at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home and officiated by Pastor Jerry Kissinger.  Burial will follow with a graveside service at Graceland Cemetery in Claypool, Indiana.

William ‘Bill’ E. Beuoy

William “Bill” E. Beuoy of Grace Village Retirement Community, Winona Lake, went home to be with his Lord and Savior at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 25, 2018 at Grace Village Health Care at the age of 89.

William “Bill” E. Beuoy

He was born on April 20, 1929 in Eaton to Frank Beuoy and Florence (Hartzell) Beuoy. He was married to Ann Crooks, and then later Beuoy re-married on April 14, 1962 to Gloria Joy Gibson, who survives.

Beuoy received his B.S. Degree from Ball State University in 1951. He served four years in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955 during the Korean War and was able to attend the Navy Electronics School. In 1959, he was awarded a National Science Foundation grant to study at Ohio State University and he received his Master’s Degree. Later he did post-graduate studies at Ball State University and attended a National Science Foundation Summer Institute at Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. 

He taught math and science at Harford City from 1955-1958; and physics, chemistry, earth science and astronomy at Muncie Central from 1959-1989, spending four of those years as Planetarium Director. In 1990-1991 he taught at Red Bird Mission in southeastern Kentucky.

He and his wife, Joy, spent ten winters with NOMADS doing disaster relief in the southern U.S. and later led several Mission work camps from the North Webster United Methodist Church. Beuoy never tired of teaching and taught astronomy to several Boy Scout groups. He was a life member and past board member of the National Science Teachers Association, past board member of the Indiana Science Supervisors Association, regional council member of the National Association of Geology Teachers, member of the Great Lakes Planetarium Association, past member of Sigma Zeta and Phi Delta Kappa Fraternities; and a longtime member of the Warsaw Kiwanis Club. He received an award from the American Association of Physics Teachers in 1989 as Indiana’s Outstanding Physics Teacher. 

As a young boy in Eaton, Beuoy gave his life to the Lord. He was a former member of the Madison Street United Methodist Church in Muncie, former member of the North Webster United Methodist Church and was a member of Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed traveling and helping in disaster areas, fishing, camping, wood working and lapidary. Beuoy very much enjoyed his family and teaching each grandchild how to fish and water ski. He lived a full life and will be missed dearly by his family, friends and the countless students he had the privilege of teaching. 

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Joy Beuoy, Warsaw; two sons:  James Beuoy, Akron, Ohio; Jay (wife Debra) Beuoy, Great Bend, Kansas; and four daughters:  Karen (husband Bruce) Libey, Bellbrook, Ohio; Peggy (husband David) Liles, Raleigh, North Carolina; Rebecca (husband Lyle) Ortner, Bettendorf, Iowa; and Melissa (husband Mark) Warner, Warsaw.  Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his sister: Mary F. Roberts, Middletown. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his two brothers, Earl and James Beuoy.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 1, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.

His funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 2, at Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 210 High St. Warsaw. Private family graveside service will take place at Mount Tabor Cemetery in Muncie with military rites conducted by active duty members of the Navy Honor Guard.

Janis Ann Jenkins

Janis Ann Jenkins, 93, Grace Village Retirement Community, Winona Lake, went home to be with the Lord at 8:07 a.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2018.

She was born on April 16, 1925, in Dayton, Ohio to Robert “Bert” Pleasant and Dessie (Moore) Pleasant. On Nov. 2, 1946 she was married to Charles Lee Jenkins, who passed away on April 12, 2000.

Mrs. Jenkins was active in ministry to Navy wives during her husband’s 18 years as a Navy chaplain, and worked as a secretary at DePuy in Warsaw for 15 years after his retirement. She was a member of Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church, enjoyed painting, music, and home decorating. Most of all she loved her family and grandchildren and will be dearly missed.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son: Jim (Kathie) Jenkins, Jacksonville, Fla.; daughter: Robin (Mark) Laurenso, Warsaw; and three grandchildren: Lisa Stoll Ron, Jonathan Stoll, and Jami Jenkins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother.

There will be an hour of visitation from 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 5, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw. A graveside service will follow at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 5, at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw and officiated by Pastor Bruce Barlow.

Ronald ‘Ron’ Eugene Ogden

Ronald “Ron” Eugene Ogden, 66, Goshen, and formerly a longtime Winona Lake, resident, passed away at 7 p.m., Monday, June 4, 2018, at St. Vincent Hospital of Indianapolis.

He was born on Jan. 28, 1952, in Warsaw to Donald Eugene Ogden and Wanita Faith (Reeves) Ogden. On Aug. 18, 1973. he was married to Rebecca “Becky” Jean (Bryant) Ogden, who survives.

He graduated from Warsaw Community High School in 1970 and then attended Grace College in Winona Lake, where he met the love of his life, Rebecca. He began working at Endicott Church Furniture as a draftsman and eventually moved into sales, which would begin his career of revolutionizing the church furniture industry. His passion and drive for his work led him through multiple companies, including SERIES USA, where he developed the US market until he left this earth. He loved sports. He excelled at tennis, basketball, boxing, and swimming.

His passion for sports paled in comparison to his passion for his family. Patient, devoted, faithful, and loving, he showed what it means to be a husband, father, Papa, and friend. Above all, he loved Jesus. He taught many who He is, but more importantly, he showed us through the way he lived for Him. Now his legacy lives on through the lives he touched, changed, and elevated. He is with his Heavenly Father.  Praise the Lord.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 44 years, Rebecca “Becky” Jean Ogden, Goshen; two sons: Josh (Sarah) Ogden, Winona Lake; Zhenya (Vanessa) Ogden, Goshen; two daughters: Ginger (Jeremy) Byng, Goshen); and Dasha Ogden, Goshen. He also leaves behind six grandchildren: Isaac, Micah, Jacob, Lily, Riah and Rhett; and two sisters: Kathie (Jim) Jenkins, Jacksonville, Fla.; Diane (Bob) Grenfell, Warsaw. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald E. Ogden in 2015 and his mother Wanita Ogden in 2006.

Visitation will be held from 3-6 p.m. on Monday, June 11, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.

A celebration of Ron’s life will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Monday, June 25, at Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church, 1200 Kings Highway, Winona Lake, and officiated by Pastor Jim Brown and Pastor Tom Miller. Private burial will take place.

Robert W. ‘Bob’ Pifer — UPDATED

Robert W. “Bob” Pifer, 87, Winona Lake, passed away at 11:28 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at Grace Village Healthcare in Winona Lake. He was born Dec. 1, 1930, in Warsaw to John W. and Lillian A. (Heisler) Pifer.

He lived most of his life in the Kosciusko County area, graduated in 1950 from Warsaw High School, and was a Korean War Army veteran. On June 14, 1958, in Michigan City, he married Maxine J. (Kinsey) Harris who preceded him on Feb. 7, 2010. He retired in 1993 after 20 years in customer service at Chore Time Brock in Milford, formerly drove for Petro’s in Warsaw, and was a former reserve police officer for Kosciusko County Sherriff’s Dept. He and his wife were former owner and operators of the Jot-em-Down Grocery Store at Barbee Lake in the late 1960’s.

He was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Warsaw, American Legion Post #253 in North Webster, and life member of the Korean War Veterans in Fort Wayne. He was a former little league coach in North Webster and Warsaw, formerly served on the Van Buren and Wayne Township Advisory Boards, very active in genealogy, and worked on the County Election Boards for 48 years.

He is survived by his daughter, Marcia (Samuel) Baumgartner, Milford; son, John (Gretchen) Pifer, Tampa, Fla.; three step-daughters: Teresa Hainge, Pierceton; Melanie Beltane, Oregon; and Beth (Rick) Monroe, North Webster; 12 grandchildren and several great grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Petro, Asheville, N.C.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister, Shirley Swartz.

Private family visitation and services were held at Owen Family Funeral Home, SR 13 and CR 500N, North Webster, with Pastor Mike Mueller of the church officiating. Burial followed in the Oakwood Cemetery.

Jackie G. Hicks

Jackie “Jack” G. Hicks, 75, Winona Lake, went home to be with the Lord at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2018, in Indianapolis.

He was born on July 14, 1942, in Kokomo, to Irene (Duffy) Yoder and Loren Hicks.  On May 1, 1964, he was married to Retha S. (Livingston) Hicks, who survives.

He graduated from Kokomo High School and spent three years in the U.S. Air Force. He worked in tool and die at Chrysler in Kokomo after the military, before attending Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills, Alberta, Canada and transferring to Grace College and Seminary.  After a year at Grace, he started in tool and die at Zimmer.  After retiring from Zimmer, he was the Warsaw store manager for Bontrager Pools.

In his very recent retirement he enjoyed motorcycling, ballroom dancing, gardening, working in the yard, and spending time with the family.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Retha Sue Hicks, Winona Lake; four sons:  Phillip (Kasey) Hicks, Nappanee; Jay (Keri) Hicks, Warsaw; Dru (Erin) Hicks, Warsaw; Tim (Nicole) Hicks, Franklin; and three daughters:  Kelly Hicks, Winona Lake; Jackie (LaMont) Craig, Indianapolis; Polly (Jason) Engel, Oklahoma City, Okla.  Also surviving are twenty-seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother:  Robin (Cheryl) Yoder, Kokomo; sister:  Penny Elkins, Kokomo; his cousin:  Rita Roaden; and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, three brothers, and his granddaughter, Aislin Caley Engel.

Visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m., Tuesday, June 19, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.

His funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home and officiated by Pastor Jeff Pfeifer.  Burial will follow with a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw.
